A Little Cold War History – 1955 Dodge C3 Pickup

This 1955 Dodge C3 is a great looking and comes with a little history attached. It was originally used by the Civil Defense in the Dallas area. It comes to us at this time to have some air conditioning installed. Seems things are hot all over!

Here is the 1955 Dodge C2 Pickup after arriving at Headquarters Machine & Restoration.
A long trip to get the very best mechanical restoration for this ancient civil defense vehicle.

The Federal Civil Defense Administration (FCDA), set up in 1951 to convince us citizens that an atomic attack was survivable, used the principles of emergency operations: prevention, mitigation, preparation, response, emergency evacuation and recovery.

Would you believe this engine is a Hemi? This is a rebuilt 315 w/ a rebuilt 4-speed on the floor. This C3 was also the first year of the pilot house wraparound front windshield!

Gull-wing access to the engine compartment? This is an example of the marvelous design work that took place on vehicles of the 1900’s.

This truck was a daily reminder for all those whose paths it crossed. This writer remembers getting under the desk in 2nd grade in 1962 and somehow being reassured that someone was in control! A great truck from a different time.

It’s our privilege to work on classic vehicles like these at Headquarters Machine. We are mechanical restorers of vintage cars and vehicles and can get your antique automobile on the road as it once was! Contact us today!

1952 Packard Hearse – Body By Henney

A few images of a recently worked on Packard Hearse. The body is by Henney. It is being placed back in service specifically for those folks that want their last ride to be in a classic and vintage vehicle. Actually a very nice touch to that kind of a day. We’re pleased to have provided service for this vehicle and hopefully add a smile or two in acknowledgement of a loved one’s wishes and maybe their hobbies as well.

1902 Oldsmobile Curved Dash

1902 Oldsmobile Curved Dash

This video is of our testing a 1902 Oldsmobile Curved Dash that recently received some restoration work at Headquarters Machine & Restoration.

We love these cars! They can be difficult and you need experienced and knowledgeable mechanics to work on them. Like the mechanics at Headquarters!

Driving is Jerry, owner and resident classic car guru of Headquarters Machine & Restoration. Riding with Jerry is our Chief Mechanic, Jeff. These earliest of the Oldsmobile classic automobiles required periodic maintenance and oiling while on the road to keep them in proper running order. Still preferred to a horse by those who enjoyed these classic cars!

1951 Kaiser Start Up

This 1951 Kaiser, had not been started in about twenty years. It was brought in to get it running and to check it out mechanically to make sure it is road worthy.

Basically we reset the points, hooked up a fresh gas supply, checked the coil, did the oil, and had it running in 1/2 an hour. We then moved on to the brakes and suspension.

A note on the Kaiser:
In 1950, Kaiser-Frazer began production of a compact car, the Henry J and ended production of the Frazer automobile; both makes were 1951 model year automobiles. Close to 760,000 cars were produced, all makes and models, between May 1946 and September 1955.

The Chevrolet inline 6 engine was Chevrolet’s sole engine from 1929 through 1954. It replaced their 171-cubic-inch inline 4. The inline 6 became the company’s base engine starting in 1955 when they also added the small block V8 to the lineup.
